Senior Couple Staying Active

Our History

Bay Area physical therapist Dr. Carlos R. Sanders DPT created Geriactive in 1998 to address the expanding needs of the elder adult population. Dr. Sanders graduated from Stanford University and obtained his Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of the Pacific. He received his doctorate in physical therapy from North Eastern University in 2010. He received his board certification as a Geriatric Clinical Specialist in 1996 and has over 20 years of treatment experience. He envisions providing a viable private alternative to conventional channels of health care.

Physical Function Maintenance

Our fundamental goal is to help maintain elderly adult physical function and independence. Treating the client's physical deficits and teaching all individuals involved in their care the techniques to maximize independence and enable long-term physical health is how we attain our goal. Geriactive employs best practices in a continued effort to maximize our outcomes.

Senior Being Tended To

Advantages

The fastest-growing segment of society is the adult population over the age of 75. The healthcare industry is straining to meet their needs. Initially, the industry focused on the development of primary care services. This emphasis included acute hospitals and rehabilitation centers.

Increased demand for more cost-effective sources of healthcare, as well as the government's need to salvage Medicare and reform healthcare in general, has led to an increase in the development of secondary care solutions, such as skilled nursing facilities, boarding homes, and residential/retirement communities.

These institutions sometimes lack many of the services needed to help improve and maintain the level of independence desired by older adults. Additionally, increasingly tight restrictions on services have drastically curtailed the amount of therapy an individual can expect under Medicare or managed care alternatives.

We address some of the gaps created by healthcare reform by providing a cost-effective private pay alternative for the elderly. Our option can improve people's independent function in the community and ultimately restore their health and well-being.
